  • CREATING LAYERED COMPOSITIONS - TYVEK SCULPTURAL - JUNE 27-29
Create fabulous compositions of texture, color and shape by transforming various weighted and embossed papers, image transfers and much more into layers of interesting and tactile collage-type pieces of art. Explore a variety of materials and processes. Experiment and create during this mixed media adventure!
  • HISTORIC PASTE PAPER & FIBER FUSION COLLAGE - SEPT.  5-7
Paste Paper is a decorative arts process where the surface of a variety of papers are prepared with a handmade paste combined with paint. The design is achieved by the application of tools and gadgets into the colored paste.  You will achieve beautiful papers that you will be able to embellish with acrylic inks.

Fiber fusion is the collaging of fibers, some papers, notions, fabrics and a magic ingredient that has stickability, to create gorgeous textural and layered pieces using heat as the adherent. Additional color will be added with chalk pastels, shimmer color and embossing powder. We will make small and large pieces. You will have the freedom to be as creative as you wish with the large assortment of materials we will have available for you.

Final pieces can be a canvas ready to hang, greeting cards, a book cover or more depending on your vision.

In all three of these workshops, there is no experience needed. All levels of artistic ability can do this. You will have the freedom to grow in your creativity, so, come and play. You will have a ball!

About Our Instructors

Lisa Gordon

The emotional bond between the horse and Lisa goes beyond simple childhood fascination. Horses have always been an intricate part of her life. She drew and mimicked them as a child; She owned and trained them as a teen; studied and revered them in college. Now as an artist it is natural that she sculpt the horse's image. The horse is the figure through which she actualizes her ideas. It becomes a tangible bridge between the viewer and herself. Her goal is to render the horse with empathy and respect without getting bogged down in realities. She strives to breath new life into an often cliche historical subject. By using tension and whimsy and by juxtaposing figure and form her sculptures are carving out a space of their own in the world of equine sculpture.

BARBARA DIAMOND

Barbara is originally from New York City. She has lived in New Mexico and Colorado her adult life. Trained as a handmade paper artist, she now works in large paper mache sculptures and out of the box collages. An avid collector of papers, bought, found and prepared, she integrates these with fibers and fabrics in her collage pieces.

She has been on faculty at the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center’s Bemis School of Art for 23 years and teaches at various schools in the vicinity. She has been on faculty at Pikes Peak Community College as well. Barbara has recently been selected to be the Artist-in-Residence through the Makers Program at 21C, the most progressive library center in the Pikes Peak region.

CHRISTINE HAUBER

Christine has lived her life as a visual artist, loving everything related to creativity including photography, mixed media and culinary arts.  When presented with the opportunity to take an Arizona cafe to new heights, she welcomed the challenge. As a seven year newcomer to the vegetarian lifestyle, she began by offering homemade, farm to table dishes in the cafe, eventually finding a way to offer a diversity of food that is required by the American consumer. As a vegetarian, she soon realized that with the right flavors, even the most hard core meat eaters find her vegetarian food amazing.

Along with managing a busy cafe, she caters small parties and offers hands on cooking instruction as well as prepares healthy vegetarian meals for individuals and families.
